What is Context News?

Context News is a news network devoted to getting at the issues of the day in a contextual framework. Distinct from the reporting of “here’s why this happened,” this network offers the chance to explore events at the level of context/root cause. To provide insight into the environments in which the incidents occurred, so that you can begin to see the logic of the events in concert with the environments in which they happen. Power to impact the issues of our day is a matter of being able to see and impact the context underlying and shaping both the events themselves and our response to them. To provide people with that insight and access is our purpose.

Who is Laughlin Artz?

For the past 30 years, Laughlin Artz has been a leader, consultant and artist in the field of cultural transformation and contextual activism, specializing in linguistics and its impact on global culture and the human condition. Working with thousands of individuals, and in partnership with organizations such as the Hunger Project, Head Start, the International Red Cross, and the Field Robotics Center at Carnegie Mellon University, Artz has been instrumental in designing and implementing initiatives that have dramatically impacted the quality of life. At the heart of his work is a deep commitment to people being free to be and express themselves.

As a writer, filmmaker, and performance artist, Laughlin crafts his creativity from the stand that art really can change the world through its capacity to impact the way people relate to themselves, each other and greater society. His work is raw, socially-relevant and a direct confront on the thoughtless indifference of the status quo, bringing to life moments of truth that speak to the heart of the human experience. As an individual artist and in collaboration with other artists, Laughlin primarily creates language-based works.

His latest work, Something To Say, is a multimedia exploration into the heart of the global condition, an expose of who and what we have become, and an illumination of the critical connections between the language in which we live, the state of the world and our response to it. As a candidate in the 2012 Presidential Election, his campaign was housed within the greater initiative - to make context a global priority. Working from that perspective, Artz recently launched Context News, an information service dedicated to examining the events and issues of the day from a contextual perspective.
